Coronado Wins West Texas Academic Challenge
El Paso’s Coronado High School placed two teams in the Final Four, and one of them won it all. The pair actually faced each other in the Semifinals, with Gold beating T-Bird, 240-185. The second Semifinal match was a dandy, with Franklin coming from behind to defeat El Paso on the last question, in the field of Analytical Geometry, 185-180. Coronado won the Finals over Franklin, by a score of 225-135. Coronado has now earned the right to face St. Mark’s School of Texas in Houston on Jan. 22, with the winner to meet the No. 1 Houston team to vie for the Texas State Championship, sponsored by GE Oil & Gas. The winner of that game gets a free pass to Nationals.
