Beaumont West Brook Comes out on Top as Southeast Texas Academic Challenge Sees Upset after Upset
T.H. Rogers Captures Middle School Title
Houston Memorial went 6-0 in the prelims but fell to 4-2 Awty International in the Quarterfinals, 210-165. St. John’s, undefeated going into the playoffs, was edged by last-ranked playoff team West Brook from Beaumont. In the Semifinals, Awty overcame Clements, 180-160, while defending champion Klein was outscored by West Brook, 260-160. Beaumont defeated Houston in the Finals, by a score of: West Brook 250, Awty 120.

Coronado, having triumphed in the Nov. 6 West Texas Academic Challenge, flew in from El Paso and dominated West Brook to capture the Texas state crown, 235-140.

In the Middle School division, T.H. Rogers’ A team beat its B team in the Semifinals, while defending champs Presbyterian A defeated St. Michael’s A. T.H. Rogers then dominated Presbyterian in the Finals, and took home the first-place trophy.
