2008 NATIONAL ACADEMIC CHAMPIONSHIP

We've Run Out of Space at Marymount
But the Hotel Options Are Very Attractive Indeed

While we are not going to run out of space to include teams in the DC competition, dorm space is quickly filling up at the tournament venue itself, Marymount University.

Although we've run out of dorm space on campus, there are splendid alternatives for hotel reservations you would make yourself. The best idea, and one we ourselves have used with good results (most recently, last month for a good deal in Steamboat Springs, CO), is to go to hotwire.com, plug in your dates and Marymount's zip code, 22207, click "find a hotel," then go to the "areas searched" column on the left, uncheck every choice except "Arlington," click "update my results," then make a choice among the several options shown. A sample hotwire search we just did (4/11) came up with a 3.5-star hotel in Arlington for only $79 per room per night. In exchange for the very good room rates, the name of the hotel is not disclosed until you commit (although you can know the class of hotel), and you pay for the rooms up front, rather than during your stay.

We also will run out of lodging space at our Chicago venue, Holiday Inn Chicago O'Hare Area, and we are currently looking for alternatives to accommodate everyone who wants to participate. We are expecting 40-45 teams will compete in Chicago.

If you want to compete in the National Academic Championship, but have not yet decided on a venue, please consider Dallas, where there is lots of space, and only 25-30 teams expected.
